I am currently an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and HHMI Hanna H. Gray Faculty Fellow at Penn State University. I was previously a postdoctoral research fellow at Princeton University, where I was funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Burroughs Wellcome Fund via the Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program and Postdoctoral Enrichment Program.
•consultant
I am a fan of creative innovation. I've discovered that when problems arise, I formulate a mechanism of action that leads to results.
•believer
The intersection between science and faith is taboo and oftentimes obscure, but the question remains: what role does faith play in science?
Never
stop
believing. Never give up.
Never
stop
trying.Never
stop
learning.
Representation matters. It is essential for the world to see people like me performing competitive research. It is also important for us to ask and answer questions that matter to underrepresented communities.
Melanie's Scientific Questions
My research aims to understand metabolic decline and aging.
01
NAD Metabolism
How is NAD+ homeostasis achieved?
02
Aging & Disease
How do disruptions within our metabolism lead to aging and disease?
03
Isotope Tracing & Mass Spec
My research combines high-resolution liquid-chromatography (HR-LCMS) coupled with in vivo
isotope tracing.
04
Mentoring & DEI
I seek to provide supportive pipelines for the research generation after me.
